A bespoke CRM built around a real sales process
BDM Wealth ran their pipeline the way a lot of advisory firms do — a CRM subscription nobody trusted, and the spreadsheets people actually used. We replaced both with a system built around how the firm genuinely sells.
Off-the-shelf CRMs assume a standard sales motion — lead arrives, one owner works it through fixed stages, it closes. Wealth advisory doesn't work that way. Introductions arrive through partners who need visibility of their own referrals and nothing else. A single opportunity may involve an introducer, an advisor and a compliance step before it can progress. Stages aren't linear.
So the CRM held the record of what had already happened while the real work lived in spreadsheets beside it. That gap is expensive in ways that never show up on an invoice: pipeline reporting assembled by hand, partner statements needing reconciliation, and nobody able to answer “what's actually in play right now” without asking three people.
Records model the real shape of a deal — multiple parties, a compliance gate, and stages named after what the firm actually does, rather than forcing a wealth advisory process into a template written for software sales.
Introducers get their own view, scoped to their own referrals — the status of what they brought in, and nothing else. That removed a recurring manual reporting burden and the risk that came with it.
One system of record, updated where the work happens, so the pipeline reflects reality rather than the last time somebody remembered to tidy up.
Aggregate views leadership can read without a reconciliation step first.
The system is live and in daily use at crmsystem.pro.
Most firms don't need a bespoke CRM. If a standard pipeline fits your process, buying one is the right call, and we'll tell you so. Bespoke earns its cost when the standard model actively fights how you work — partner networks, multi-entity structures, regulated onboarding — and the tell is a team quietly maintaining spreadsheets next to software they already pay for.
If you're weighing that trade-off yourself, read our breakdown of how much a bespoke CRM costs, or see our approach to CRM development.
